Dear Students,
If you have never interacted with me in office hours or in my lab, I may re-direct you to contact other faculty to write you a letter of recommendation. I try very hard to write personal letters of recommendations for students I know well and have had interactions with in class or in the lab. I would prefer that you not ask me for a letter in an email, but instead set up a meeting with me so I can talk with you and help guide you. You may also schedule an appointment with me, by looking at my calendar and finding a time you can meet (virtually - through video) with me (schedule here). If you are unable to find a time to meet with Jenny, based on her schedule, please send a direct message to her on the SPA Advising Slack workspace.
If you have worked in my lab or regularly attend(ed) office hours and would like a letter of recommendation from me, please email me to set up a meeting to discuss your request for a letter of recommendation. If I agree to write you a letter, please follow this list to help keep me on task so that I don’t miss your deadlines:
1. Send me reminders: 2 weeks before, 1 week before, 2 days, and the day the letter is due
2. Where am I sending the letter? If you are applying to programs in CSDCAS and/or outside of the CSDCAS system, please let me know in the email reminders. If you are applying outside the CSDCAS system, please create a spreadsheet with links and contacts to the universities and programs
3.Highlights: If there is anything you would like me to highlight in your letter (e.g., the number of extra-curricular activities, specific strengths in light of potential weaknesses, or interest in research), please also indicate that in the email reminder you send me.
You all are amazing students and I want to make sure I am able to brag about you to your prospective grad programs! Help me do that!
Best,
Jenny
